The German Federal Ministry for the Environment wants to expand the rental bike system of Munich to cover the whole district. As the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports, the federal government is funding the expansion with the highest possible amount of 3.06 million euros for 24 months.
According to this plan, 100 stations with rental bikes will gradually be built in the entire district until the end of 2019. Thus, the city and district of Munich would be the first region in which a uniform range of services would be extended to the suburban area. According to the newspaper Süddetuschen Zeitung, this measure can counteract the enormous traffic congestion in the metropolitan area of Munich.
